Title Changes

1998 Tenryu defeats Nobukazu Araya in tournament final to become the first J1 heavyweight champion and is awareded the old Japanese Heavyweight Title belt originally held by Rikidozan.

2001 Taiyo Kea (Maunakea Mossman) & Johnny Smith defeat Toshiaki Kawada & Masanobu Fuchi in Tokyo to win the vacant World Tag Team Title (All Japan).

2002 Arashi & Kouki Kitahara vacate All Asia Tag Team Title.


1884 At Irving Hall in New York, Sorakichi Matsuda, the first Japanese pro-wrestler, has his first match as a catch-as-catch-can style wrestler, losing two out of three falls to Edwin Bibby only in 32 seconds in the first fall and 2'19 in the second fall.
